From Jeffrey Svien: Good afternoon. I am very happy to report that Gus was found around 2:30 pm today. He had sequestered himself under the hood of an abandoned car in an alley near our home. When the hood was popped, he ran away again onto Warner Street and up under the hood of another vehicle. Luckily, the owners of that vehicle happened to be walking toward it as our group descended upon their car, the owners popped their hood and we were able to grab him. He’s very dirty and clearly in a state of shock and confusion but he’s back at home! We are grateful to all the wonderful neighbors who helped in the search. Thanks to you as well for your help in publicizing this. We are relieved and ecstatic to have him back.

That is Sadie, a 9-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who has been missing from the 1800 block of Eddy Street, near Addison and Damen since April 6, 2010. Her owners Nicole and Henry Brownwell are devastated at the loss of their pet. They have posted a no questions asked $1,000.00 reward for her return. Sadie was last seen at home and apparently ran out of the house while a door was open during spring cleaning. She may have run to a street and been picked up by a car where the sight of the well groomed, five-pound Yorkie would have attracted attention. At the time of her disappearance Sadie was wearing a nylon collar with two tags: one bronze tag in the shape of a bone with her owners telephone number and address. She also has been micro-chipped and the network has been activated to assist in her location. However, these chips are not GPS locator’s and will only help find her if she is taken to a veterinarian, kennel or a shelter where the chip can be read.
Just look at that face, and those eyes.

Physically Sadie is described by Ms. Brownwell as “black and tan and has a very small white patch of fur on her chest which blends in with the tan. She has a short snout, looks like an Ewok, from Star Wars.” Sadie is described as affectionate, friendly and a bundle of energy. Sadie is on daily medications.

If you have any information, please call (312) 543-5000 immediately, there is a family waiting to welcome this little ball of fluff home.

July 17, 2010

Sadly Sadie has not come home yet, the Bromwells have not given up hope for her return. Like most Yorkies Sadie needs regular dental attention at the vet and should be due for a cleaning in the near future. It is their hope the vet will scan Sadie for a chip and her owners identity will be discovered. As of this time it is not required for vets to scan for chips when a new animal is brought into their offices for the first time. As chipping of pets becomes more popular it may be time to have a look at requiring clinics to scan animals.

An officer at the 19th District confirmed a police report had been filed, but noted that because the door was open when Plumb returned home, they believe Tucker may be lost, having run out during the break-in.

Plumb responds that the family home has a double door, making it unlikely Tucker could escape. Besides, Plumb notes, there was a missing leash. Why would they take a leash and no dog?

A question was sent to the Chicago Police regarding theft of dogs late Thursday. Police media officials said they’d respond as soon as they could.

Regardless of the reason for Tucker not being home when Plumb returned home, there is a missing dog. “I miss him a lot,” Plumb said.

If you have information or have found Tucker, contact Plumb at jenna.plumb@gmail.com. If Tucker is lost, he would have last been seen in the 1800 block of Patterson, which is near Lincoln and Addison.
