Bowmanville residents welcome the public by opening their yards to display their gardens creating a friendly venue of hospitality and shared learning about gardening. The gardens are also reviewed on various criteria including design, creative use of plants, and neighborhood enhancement. The University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener Program will be hosting their “Ask a Master Gardener” information table. The event also hosts an amateur photo contest where the people’s choice winner will receive a prize and be recognized in next year’s Garden Walk promotional materials. The winning photo used this year is “Garden Bench’ by Tom Kennedy and is seen in the poster above.
BCO welcome tables with program maps are located at the community green space at the intersection of Bowmanville and Bell Avenues and at the Gateway Garden at 1801 W. Balmoral Avenue. BCO accepts contributions, and all funds received during the Garden Walk are used to improve the community gardens and beautify the neighborhood.
