Gordon Ladies defeat Maria Mystics 51-34

Gordon Tech Rams (6-11) bounced back with authority after Monday night’s loss to Mt. Assisi by playing stellar defense and draining three point field goals to put away the Maria Mystics Wednesday night.

Junior guard for the Rams, Jenny Carroll poured in 15 points. Senior forward Katelynn Reed added eight points of her own, giving the Mystics all they could handle. Gordon Tech cruised to a 51-34 victory.

Gordon Tech forced the Mystics into many turnovers and capitalized with great shooting as they jumped out early with a 13-5 first quarter lead.

Sophomore center, Melanie Claudio for the Rams caused some trouble in the paint while Maria’s quick guards tried racing to the basket. LaNaisa Lee (13 points) got things going for the Mystics.

Maria teammate Tyna Bowens (10 points) did all she could in the paint to try and slow the game down. But by the end of the third frame Gordon had jumped out to a 39-21 lead.

They didn’t look back.

Game notes: Gordon Tech starter Samantha Martinez sat out the game with a bruised hip. When asked about her injury, Coach Tom Kane said, “she has had some tough falls lately and I wanted to rest her up. She could have played if we really would have needed her.”
