Lane Lacrosse Gets Past Maine South

April 11, 2012
By Lauren_Recchia

The Lane Tech Indians Lacrosse team took advantage of The Maine South Hawks’ many trips to the penalty box last Wednesday.

Tha Indians (4-5, 2-0) defeated the Hawks 7-6 at Lane Tech Stadium, exploding for offense in the fourth quarter with 3 goals after being down 6-4.

“(Our team) played really hard down the stretch,” said Lane head coach Kevin Brauner. “They didn’t give up, and things went our way toward the end. They put the ball in the net when they needed to.”

With the game tied at 6 with 21 seconds to go, Lane tech’s Reid O’neil came through with the game winning goal over the Hawks, who were two men down from penalties. The Hawks had already played three men down with about 2 minutes to go, as Lane took advantage and scored to tie the game. The ability to convert on the man advantage was huge for Brauner, who knows that it hasn’t come easy so far this season for his Indians.

“It’s hit or miss,” said Brauner of the Indians’ success on the man-advantage during the season. “Alot of times, the problem on man-ups is taking care of the ball. In those situations, (our team) gets excited and wants to score right away, and sometimes we’ll overthrow or drop the ball.”

O’neil finished the night with 3 goals, while Greg Urban tallied 2 goals. Zachary Barth and Anthony Spingola each accounted for a goal in the victory.

Brauner is pleased with his team’s continuous improvement so far this season, and knows that they will keep it up as time goes on.

“We’re making alot of progress since the beginning of the season,” he said. “Ultimately, our goal is to make them better at the end of the season and for the program to get better as well.”
