The Thrills, Chills & Spills of Rodeo

September 13, 2011
By Kris Gray
Mark Weber shows off his skill as an experienced Bullfighter.

This past Saturday in Belvidere, the Tebala Shrine’s Horse Patrol sponsored their 18Th annual Rodeo in conjunction with the Big Hat Rodeo Company. While there was only a modest crowd in the grandstands for the afternoon performance, the thrills inside the arena were huge. From the ever popular Bull Riding to the antics of the Rodeo Clown, rodeo fans were treated to 2 1/2 hours of non-stop action. Big Hat appears to consistantly provide good family entertainment.

Proceeds from this rodeo will help benefit the area through the services the Shriners provide. The Shriners are more than just a group of men who wear funny hats. They truly are a brotherhood of unsung heros. They serve their communities through endless philanthropic work with children. In 1922 the very first Shriners Hospital was opened in Shreveport, La. There is now a network of 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children internationally. Children, up to the age of 18, are treated for cleft lip & palate, burn injuries of any degree, orthopedic conditions and spinal cord injuries. All services are “provided at no charge, regardless of the child’s financial need or relationship to a Shriner”.

This bucking bronc took Will Crain, from Fraina, on a wild ride from one end of the arena to the other.
