An 18 day festival, complete with carnival rides, booths for small businesses and opportunities to partner with local charities is planned for June 2013 in Lincoln Park near Uptown.
The Chicago Uptown Festival will be held east of Lake Shore Dr in Lincoln Park, between Wilson and Lawrence, a web site for the event promises. The organizers is Derrick Sorles, an online publisher of more than half dozen titles including BestGayChicago, BestGayNewYork and BestGayCities.
Sorles is best known, according to his LinkedIn profile, for being a social media expert.
The entity being used by Sorles for the festival is Inside Your Chicago, a news site that features “what’s new, what’s hot, what’s next” in Chicago.
Some of the proceeds from the festival are being earmarked to benefit Chicago Police and Fire charities and the Goldstar Families Memorial, the site says.
A music lineup was not announced by the site, which appeared to still be in the process of lining up funding.
Local businesses and artists can rent space for rates from $2,000.
The group is looking to partner with local churches, charities and schools, it says.
