Basta Won’t Get Along With Madigan

February 29, 2012
By Patrick Boylan

If you are an anti- Michael Madigan Democrat or any type of Republican NBC’s Ward Room is inviting you to look at Paula Basta.

Basta, who manages the Levy Senior Center in Lincoln Square, is running against appointed Ill. Rep. Kelly Cassidy for the 14th District, an area that covers the north east corner of our readership.

Edward McClelland says there is no difference between Basta and Cassidy. So, to distinguish herself Basta prepared an Ethics plan that would call for special elections to fill vacancies.

The 14th District seat came open following a Ald. Harry Osterman joining city hall, months after winning reelection to Springfield. Selection to the seat depended on the choice of one person: Democratic Boss Carol Ronen, who held more than half the votes, McClelland notes.

It is the time honored way for people to fill seats in Cook County.
