Bulldog to Partner with CANTV

January 18, 2013
By From_Press_Releases_Other_Sources

Cable subscribers across Chicago can now get the latest updates from The Welles Park Bulldog by picking up the remote instead of their mouse. Chicago Access Network Television (CAN TV) is now featuring bite-sized posts from the Bulldog on cable Channel 27.

Publisher Patrick Boylan said this new partnership with CAN TV provides a unique opportunity to share the Bulldog with more people.

“We’re really excited by the opportunity to bring our content to cable television,” he said. “With cable television we can provide even more Chicago residents with the community news stories that matter to them.”

According to CAN TV’s Marketing and Communications Director Michael Jacobson, the short, slideshow-like presentations of the news help local outlets like the Bulldog reach across the digital divide.

“Around forty percent of Chicago residents don’t have Internet access, and many other cable viewers may not even know these resources are available,” Jacobson said. “We hope to change that.”

The Welles Park Bulldog is a citizen journalism effort that focuses on Ravenswood. Since being formed in 2009 the effort has won two prestigious Lisagor awards, nine journalism awards from the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association and recognition from the Community Media Workshop.

CAN TV provides coverage of events relevant to the local community and gives every Chicagoan a voice on cable television by providing video training, facilities, equipment, and channel time for Chicago residents and nonprofit groups.  CAN TV’s five local, noncommercial cable channels CAN TV19, 21, 27, 36 and 42 reach more than one million viewers in the city of Chicago. Good partnership. I think the Schmidt who ran for congress had his motorcycle show on CAN.
