Cappleman! Pigeons! Assault!

May 19, 2012
By Patrick Boylan

Ald. James Cappleman, who celebrated his first anniversary in office on Thursday, was assaulted earlier that day for sweeping bread crumbs from the sidewalk.

According to media reports, at about 2.30P Thursday the Alderman saw 59 year old Young Kang feeding pigeons in the 800 block of West Wilson.

The alderman responded by sweeping up the bread crumbs.

Kang responded to that by pushing the alderman. That’s called an assault. And, we do not make light of it despite our headline.

Read more about the alderman’s altercation with the pigeon lady of Wilson in the Chicago Tribune.

If you believe that Ald. Cappleman’s response to the pigeon problem in his ward is draconian, and unduly penalizes human compassion, then please sign my petition, “Feeding Pigeons Shouldn’t Mean Prison” on Care2 here: http://www.thepetitionsite.com/602/890/327/feeding-pigeons-shouldnt-mean-prison/. You can also read my open letter to Ald. Cappleman here: http://thecompassionatecitizen.wordpress.com/. Thank you!
