Moberg Gallery @ The Space To Open In Dec.

November 17, 2012
By Patrick Boylan

Lincoln Square is rapidly becoming Chicago’s go-to neighborhood for the city’s culture seekers and a new tenant promises to bring fresh vigor to the area and the city’s dynamic art scene.  Moberg Gallery @ The Space will officially open its doors next month with a group show featuring artists from Chicago and throughout the country.

The newest venture by TJ Moberg, the owner and operator of Iowa’s most successful contemporary art gallery,Moberg Gallery @ The Space will represent Chicago-area artists and provide art and design consulting services to businesses in the area.

The gallery will be managed by two Lincoln Square residents, Tim Duerkop and Kate Mullin, who is also a childhood friend of Moberg’s. Duerkop and Mullin jumped at the chance to take the reins of day to day management of the gallery and support Moberg’s entry point to the Chicago market.

“We are both really excited about jumping into the growing art scene in Chicago and bringing a slice of that scene to our favorite neighborhood – Lincoln Square,” said Mullin. “The Space is going to be a hot spot for art lovers and all of the folks that we are lucky to call our neighbors. We’re also looking forward to making inroads with businesses and individuals looking for help in choosing artworks and creating a truly unique environment with art.”

Moberg commands his art empire from Des Moines with a busy gallery that recently celebrated its 10 year anniversary. An artist himself, he opened the gallery with four artists in 2002 and has grown it to be one of the most recognized galleries in the Midwest. Many believe the Gallery has been instrumental in changing the visual culture of the Midwest through its unique perspective and active events calendar that has hosted more than 100 solo and group shows.

Moberg is also seen as a trusted partner in the art consulting world with services that pair professional artists and national galleries with clients who want to achieve a unique artistic vision for their space. His services run the gamut from budget analysis to design concepts using graphic representations and artwork selection, fabrication and installation. His experience and partnerships in the modern art market allow him to incorporate unique artworks in a variety of mediums tailored to a building’s architecture and the client’s values and vision.

His most recent projects include work for Mercy Health Systems, The World Food Prize, Iowa State University, Nationwide Insurance and Aviva USA to create timeless and serene environments.

“I’ve always loved Chicago and see its exciting art scene as one of the reasons why the Midwest has emerged as a player in the international art world,” said Moberg. “I often visit the city simply to stay abreast of the most cutting edge work that’s being created.  I can hardly wait to really sink my teeth into the scene and hope that The Space provides us the opportunity to work with new artists and businesses in the city.”

Moberg’s curated artworks can also be found online at MobergEditions.com. More than 1,000 unique, one-of-a-kind pieces, digital artworks, prints, sculpture can be purchased directly from the site. Trade discounts are available for designers and architects.
