Food deserts on North Side include Ravenswood

Mayor Rahm Emanuel called on food retailers to address the lack of nearby grocery stores in parts of Chicago June 15.

“It is unacceptable that 450,000 Chicagoans do not have access to healthy, fresh foods for their family,” Emanuel said.

A map created by the city indicates large areas of the South and West Sides are underserved by grocers. However, a section of Bowmanville, Andersonville, Horner Park and St. Ben’s were also apparent in the map.
