Rhoda Grupe Brown, 84, a nurse who devoted many hours to the Lawrence Hall Youth Services, passed April 1.
Brown graduated valedictorian from Elgin High School in 1942. She trained as a nurse and joined the war effort. Prior to being married she staffed a polio clinic in Texas.
A member of the LHYS Winnetka Women’s Board and later the first female member of the Board of Trustees, she devoted hours in service to Lawrence Hall.
She endowed a scholarship at Rush University College of Nursing and championed many charities as a grass roots philanthropist.
